Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a disease of the heart and blood vessels that
kills many people in developed and developing countries, including
Indonesia. A person will realize they have hypertension when the symptoms
they feel get worse. Symptoms that hypertension sufferers often complain
about include pain and headaches, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, restlessness,
shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, epitaxis, and decreased
consciousness. One non-pharmacological method that can reduce high blood
pressure and pain experienced by hypertension patients is progressive muscle
relaxation therapy. Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a systematic technique
that works by tensing and relaxing the skeletal muscles so that it is able to
stabilize blood pressure and prevent a decrease in cardiac output and relaxes
the skeletal muscles.
Objective: To analyze the results of Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy
intervention in reducing high blood pressure and pain in hypertension
patients.
Implementation: Nursing actions are carried out for 3 consecutive days with
blood pressure checks carried out at the beginning and at the end of the
activity, which are carried out on the first day to the 3rd day, accompanied by
documentation of the development of pain results. The length of time for each
respondent to carry out the Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique was the
same, around 10-20 minutes. Pain score results were assessed on day 3,
namely observation and evaluation of the 15 movements carried out by the
patient. Then observe the condition of blood pressure and pain using the
Wong – Baker Faces score.
Conclusions and Recommendations: Progressive Muscle Relaxation
Therapy is effectively used to reduce blood pressure and pain levels in
hypertension patients. Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy must be carried
out regularly and balanced with family assistance so that maximum effort
