Abstract

This study aims to examine the linguistic characteristics employed by Dua Lipa in formal speech, with a specific focus on women's language. This study examine is the characteristics and similarities of Dua Lipa's use of women's language in formal speech. The data is analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method, which involves the application ofLakoffs (1975) theory on women's linguistic features. Based on the conducted study and collected dat4 it has been observed that there are a total of 59 instances of women's language features identified. The result of the study shows that in Dua Lipa's speeches found eight out often features related to women's language in her selected formal speeches at Grammy Music Award (2019), Atlantic Council (2021) and The Booker Prize (2022). The linguistic traits observed in speech include the applic ation of Lexical hedges or Fillers, Intensifiers, Super Polite forms, Tag questions, Rising intonation on declarative, E*pty adjectives, Avoidance of strong swear words, and Empathic slress. The feature of Empty Adjective indicates the highest frequency of usage, while Precise Color Terms and Hypercorrect Grammar indicate the lowest frequency of use among the three speeches.
