Abstract

Introduction: People with mental disorders (ODGJ) are individuals who
experience mental health issues. One of the mental disorders prevalent in Indonesia
is schizophrenia. A common nursing problem in schizophrenia patients is low selfesteem.
Expressive
writing
is
a
therapeutic
writing
technique
used
to
improve
and

enhance
mental
health.

Objective:

This study aims to analyze nursing care through expressive writing
interventions to improve self-esteem in schizophrenia patients at the Harapan
Sentosa 2 Social Welfare Center in Cipayung.

Methods: This study employed a case study approach with a qualitative method,
involving interviews and observations of patients over a certain period.

Results: The results indicated an improvement in the patients' ability to express
their feelings toward others through expressive writing. Additionally, the patients
showed an improved quality of life, marked by changes in their attitudes and
behaviors, becoming more positive.
Conclusion: The expressive writing therapy intervention proved to be highly
effective in improving the self-esteem of patients with low self-esteem. This
therapy can be used as an additional intervention in mental health nursing care to
help patients adapt to social environments
