Abstract
This study, entitled “The Hierarchy of Needs in The Movie Damsel (2024)) aims to analyze the hierarchy of needs of the main character, Elodie, in the movie Damsel (2024) through the lens of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory and to identify how Elodie’s experiences reflect the five levels of human needs: physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness, esteem, and self-actualization. A descriptive qualitative method is used to support this research. The data were collected by observing the movie carefully, focusing on dialogues, actions, and scenes that represent Elodie’s fulfillment of each level in Maslow’s theory. The technique used in selecting the data is purposive sampling.
The findings reveal that Elodie’s character undergoes a transformation that aligns with Maslow’s five stages of needs. The fact that Elodie is trapped in the dragon's
lair and experiences numerous betrayals demonstrates that her struggle to satisfy the five levels of needs can develop even in extreme situations.
