Abstract

This research focused on woman language features and social factors that influence female main characters in the drama series "The End of the F***ing World S1." using a qualitative descriptive approach because the data comes from The End of the F***ing World S1 drama series. This study examined women's language features from the subtopic of sociolinguistics by applying Lakoff's (1975) theory. Additionally, I looked for social factors that influence the emergence of features employing Janet Holmes's (2001) theoretical framework. The data source was taken from the movie script. The results showed that the features found are lexical hedges or fillers, intensifiers, tag questions, emphatic stress, rising intonation on declarative, avoidance of strong swear words, super polite forms, empty adjectives, precise color terms, and hypercorrect grammar. In these findings, lexical hedge or fillers is used more often due to certain factors. Participant, Setting, Topic, and Function are social factors proposed by Janet Holmes (2001).The dominating factor in the emergence of these features is Topic. However, each feature that appears does not have the same social factors because it depends on the conversation context. Keyword : Woman Language Features, Social Factor, Sociolinguistics.
