Abstract

This research is entitled The Racism Issues In “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” By Malcolm Spellman. The film series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021) is a six-episode television series exploring the aftermath of the Blip, an event in which half of all life in the universe was erased and returned five years later. However, the series also tackles another critical issue: racism. This thesis aims to examine the portrayal of racism in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021) and how it reflects the real-world problems of systemic racism and discrimination. Through an analysis of the characters' experiences, interactions, and personal histories, this thesis will explore how the show tackles racism and how its portrayal contributes to ongoing conversations about race and social justice. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021) serves as an important platform for discussing the complexities of racism and its impact on individuals and society. It encourages viewers to face uncomfortable truths about racial discrimination, challenges stereotypes, and fosters empathy and understanding across races. Descriptive qualitative method is applied in this research and purposive sampling is used in order to collect the data by doing thorough watching, reading, understanding the data, note-taking, and separating the data that are categorized in the required research questions and objectives of the research. This research concludes eleven data and three types of racism: (1) interpersonal racism; (2) institutional racism; and (3) structural racism.
