Abstract

Slang is an informal language most ly used and created by teenagers and certain groups to distinguish themselves from others. This research focuses on the slang words, phrases, and sentences found in The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck book written by Mark Manson. This research aims to analyze the translation of slang words, phrases, and sentences from English into Indonesian, also the types of slangs and the translat ion strategies. The writer uses qualitat ive descriptive method. The data were collected by reading the original book and the translated version. The theories utilized in this research are Allan’s and Burridge’s for the types of slang, Karolina Butkuvienė and Lolita Petrulionė for the translat ion strategies and Nida and Taber for the meaning equivalence. The result of this research shows that a total of 88 datum of slang languages were found in The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. Four out of five slang types were found in the book. Flippant is the most common
with a total of 37 out of 88 data. As for the most common strategy, Stylist ic Compensat ion is the most common used with a total of 35 out of 88. Meaning equivalences in the translat ion consist s of 45 Dynamic Equivalence.
