Abstract

This research aimed to find out the types of emotions found in Taylor Swift’s folklore (deluxe version) album and to identify the translation strategies used to translate the English lyrics into Indonesian. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative by collecting and analyzing data from 17 songs in the album along with their Indonesian fan-made translations taken from YouTube lyric
videos. To analyze the emotions, the researcher used the theory of basic emotions by Shaver et al. (1987), which includes five main emotions: fear, sadness, anger, love, and joy. The translation strategies were identified using Mona Baker’s (2011) theory, which includes several ways to deal with non-equivalence in translation, such as translation by a more general word, translation by a more neutral/less
expressive word, cultural substitution, loan word, paraphrase using a related word, paraphrase using unrelated words, and omission. As a result, the dominant emotion
found in the lyrics was sadness, followed by love and fear. The most frequently used translation strategy was paraphrase using unrelated words, followed by paraphrase using related words, and translation by a more neutral or less expressive
word
