Abstract

This research is entitled “The Hierarchy of Needs in the Movie The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021) by Ian Samuels”. This research aims to analyze the Hierarchy of Needs as reflected in the main characters, Mark and Margaret, using
Maslow’s theory. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method and focuses on analyzing dialogue and scenes in the movie. The results of this research show
that the two main characters have fulfilled all five stages of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, which are physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness needs,
esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. The data consists of 4 findings on the main characters, 5 on Mark’s characterization, and 31 on Mark's needs (6 physiological needs, 5 safety needs, 6 love and belongingness, 4 esteem needs, and 10 self-actualization). Then there are 5 data on Margaret’s characterization and 24 on Margaret's needs (5 physiological needs, 7 safety needs, 4 love and belongingess, 4 esteem needs, and 4 self-actualization).
