Abstract

This study analyzes the film ‘Black Panther’ (2018) through the lens of Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony and counter-hegemony, as well as stereotypical representations. The film functions as a popular medium that shapes public perceptions of values and culture, and can depict social, political, and economic realities. This study employs a descriptive qualitat ive approach to examine the film ‘Black Panther’ (2018). This approach allows for a rich and contextual understanding of how cultural products convey and reinforce social power structures. The primary data for this study consists of the film's narrative components, including dialogue, cinematic scenes, character interactions, and visual symbols. Overall, ‘Black Panther’ funct ions as a
counter-hegemonic text that challenges Western dominance, racial stereotypes, and gender norms, while also showing how hegemony is maintained and challenged in society. The film effectively challenges harmful stereotypes and promotes more
authentic representations of African identity, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of the negotiation of cultural hegemony.
