Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels. One of the complications of Diabetes Mellitus is Diabetic Ulcer which is characterized by the presence of ulcerations below the ankle that can cause amputation of the foot in the client. Good foot care knowledge can improve foot care behavior and prevent early diabetic ulcer complications.This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and foot care behavior in Diabetes Mellitus patients at Dr. Suyoto Hospital, South Jakarta. This study used a cross-sectional approach. Where the population in this study was Diabetes Mellitus patients who visited the internal medicine poly room at Dr. Suyoto Hospital in August 2022. The sempel retrieval technique uses purposive sampling with a total of 80 respondents. The research instruments used were checklists, DFKS (Diabetes Foot Care Knowledge Scale) questionnaires, NAFF (Nottingham Assessment of Functional Foodcare) questionnaires. The statistical test uses the chi-square test to see the relationship. The results showed the level of knowledge of respondents with good categories (47.5%), and less foot care behaviors (77.5%). There is an association between the level of knowledge and the P-value foot care behavior of 0.011 < 0.05. There is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and foot care behavior in Diabetes Mellitus patients at Dr. Suyoto Hospital, South Jakarta. It is hoped that this research can be used as a source of knowledge for Diabetes Mellitus patients in understanding how to treat Diabetes feet.
