Abstract
As competition among private TV stations is high, each tv station has been trying hard to attract audience with possible best programs. Considering the need for a balanced proportion of programs that an individual TV station has to accomplish, it is interesting to explore how this requirement has been materialized. The study conducted from 25 April to 1 May 2011, examines ten (10) TV stations, focusing on functions to be performed. The objects are RCTI, SCTV, MNCTV, ANTV, INDOSIAR, TRAN TV, METRO TV, GLOBAL TV and TV One. The theory used in the analyses is the functional theory developed by Charles R.Wright & Dominick. The finding of the study is that of the ten stations, eight (8) TV stations performed more on the entertainment function whereas the other two stations, i.e. Metro TV and TV One have performed more on surveillance instrument.
