Abstract
Novels, particularly English novels, are popular among readers. There are various types of speech acts in the novel that are interesting to read. This research focuses on the translation techniques used on speech acts uttered in Rick Riordan's novel The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero. The use of speech acts, translation techniques, translation quality, and a qualitative descriptive approach are all examined in this study. The data is analyzed by identifying utterances containing speech acts in both the source and target languages. The theory of Searle, Molina & Albir, and Nababan was used in this study. According to the findings of this study, (1) 30% are Representative, 27% are Directive, 29% are Commissive, and 14% are Expressive. (2) There is a 25% Established Equivalent, a 27% Literal Translation, a 10% Borrowing, an 8% Transposition, a 10% Reduction, a 5% Variation, a 4% Adaptation, a 3% Linguistic Amplification, a 3% Linguistic Compression, a 2% Amplification, a 2% Generalization, and a 1% Particularization. (3) The Accuracy average is 2.92, Acceptability is 2.86, and Readability is 2.98. The average translation quality in this study is 2.92. One datum is less accurate and three data are not accurate, four data are less acceptable and three data are not acceptable, and one data is medium readability level. As a result, several translations of this novel are inappropriate when translated into Indonesian.
