Abstract

Film industry involves translation to reach a global audience and engage them into the content. This study analyzes the translation of phrasal verbs of the source language used in Cinderella (2015); where the source of data is a streaming service provider called Disney Plus Hotstar. The purposes of this study are to identify the types of phrasal verbs; to indicate the translation procedures of the phrasal verbs; and to identify the types of meaning equivalence occurred in the translation of phrasal verbs. The researcher uses a descriptive-qualitative method; and heories stated by Hart (1999), Larson (1984) and Nida (1964) to analyze the collected data. The data analysis reveals that there are 70 different phrasal verbs consisting 26 separable transitive; 29 inseparable transitive; and 15 intransitive phrasal verbs, within a total number of 109 phrasal verbs used in Cinderella (2015); 6 translation procedures applied (adaptation, established equivalence, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression, literal translation and reduction); also, formal equivalence occurred in 45 phrasal verbs and dynamic equivalence in 64 phrasal verbs.
