Abstract

This research entitled “Contextual Meaning Translation Analysis in the “The Little Prince” Novel by Katherine Woods.” This research aims to identify the literal meaning & contextual meaning of a certain sentence on the book based on the theories and research from G.Miller & Claudia Learcock and the Translation method analysis is provided by Peter Newmark. From the book I could find 50 sentences of contextual meanings. The results show that from 50 sentences, and from the datum of this thesis that I research very analyzed deeply, found that 13 of the Datum used topical context while 12 used literal context and in a translation side of view. I found out that 7 datum used literal translation technique, 6 datum used faithful translation technique, 5 datum used adaptation translation technique, 3 datum used word to word translation technique, 2 datum used free translation technique and 1 datum used idiomatic translation technique and semantics translation technique however none used communicative translation technique.
