Abstract
To communicate with each other, people use language as a tool to provide information, messages, express things, and ideas to others as well as in literary works. In communication, language style also describes the situation between listeners and speakers. Based on this phenomenon, researchers want to examine more the style of language that appears in literary works such as novels related to 5 types of language style based on Joos theory. This study aims to find out the use of language style in the Fellowship Point Novel by Alice Elliott Dark. This research is based on the theory of Martin Joos (1967) where the researcher uses qualitative methods to obtain data and the data is the dialogue that is presented by the characters in the novel Fellowship Point. The findings show that there are five types of language style in the novel Fellowship Point, such as frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. The findings show that the function of using language style in literary works and real life conversation is the same. Because basically written works such as novels are a reflection of real life in society. The function of language style for these two aspects is the same to show expression, respect, and feelings.
