Abstract
The research entitled “ Adaptation of ‘The Last of Us’: A Comparative Study Between The Gameplay and TV Series aims to analyze the ekranisasi process by Pamusuk Eneste, from the gameplay The Last of Us to its TV series by examining their intrinsic elements through the lens of DiYanni. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The adaptation or ekranisasi process includes 5 reductions in plot, 24 additions (plot and character), 18 modifications (plot and character). These changes enrich the narrative structure, allowing for deeper exploration of subplots and emotional arcs, ultimately enhancing the audience's emotional engagement with the characters and their journey. Among the ten previous studies that have used Eneste’s Ekranisasi theory, very few have compared gameplay with its adaptation into a television series. Most existing literature focuses primarily on the transition from novels, short stories, or other written texts into film or television. It examines how narrative elements like plot, character development, and setting are kept, changed, or left out during the adaptation process. As a result, the use of Ekranisasi theory to explore how gameplay known for interactivity, player choice, and nonlinear storytelling—adapt into the more passive and straightforward format of TV series is still relatively unexplored.
