Abstract

This study employs Mack Le Mouse's theory to categorize and analyze anger expressions in mid-90s films. By examining dialogues from the film Mid90s, the researcher classified 35 instances of anger into various types according to the theory, though two types remained uncategorized. The analysis revealed that verbal anger was the most prevalent, with warning and disagreeing being the primary causes of anger expressions. The data were further categorized into 12 types of anger which are behavioral anger, passive anger, verbal anger, self-inflicted anger, volatile anger, judgmental anger, retaliatory anger, paranoid anger, deliberate anger, constructive anger, chronic anger, and overwhelmed anger. The study identified instances of each type except chronic and overwhelmed anger. Additionally, reasons behind anger expressions were categorized into questioning, asserting, commanding, criticizing, mocking, disbelieving, ordering, suggesting, disagreeing, warning, and declaring. This research aims to enhance understanding of anger in narrative contexts by aligning empirical data with theoretical frameworks and previous studies.
