Abstract
The title of this undergraduate thesis is “Anxiety and Defense Mechanism in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 (2023) Movie”. The purposes of this undergraduate thesis are to analyze how the character of Rocket Raccoon experienced anxiety and defense mechanisms. The method used in this research is the descriptive-qualitative method, and the theories used in this research are Sigmund Freud’s anxiety and defense mechanism theories and Lois Tyson’s core issues and their relationship to anxiety theory. The results of the research show that 44 data based on the movie script and scenes, which were classified into four categories. There is a relationship among id, ego, and superego. There are three types of anxiety in the movie, namely; neurotic, moral, and reality. There are five core issues and their relationship to anxiety in the movie, namely; fear of intimacy, fear of abandonment, fear of betrayal, low self-esteem, and insecure or unstable sense of self. There are three defense mechanisms in the movie, namely; repression, regression, and rationalization.
