Abstract

The study's goal is to describe how the character of John Wick in Derek Kolstad's
2014 film "John Wick" depicted masculinity. This research looks at how the main
character, John Wick, represents masculinity. This research is a qualitative
descriptive study. The goal of this study was to look how John Wick's character
reflected masculinity, as well as the masculinity attributes that John Wick presents
and the traits influence how men are portrayed. All of the subjects in this study were
characters from the film John Wick. The main character of the film is John Wick.
The data is obtained through library research. To assess the validity of the data, the
researchers employ purposive sampling technique. The study's findings revealed
that Janet Saltzman Chafetz offered seven masculine themes in her portrayals of the
main characters in the film John Wick, including: 1) Physical appearance: power,
masculinity, athletic ability, and bravery 2) Functional: accountable to his family
and himself. 3) Sexuality: a relationship with a woman 4) Emotions: Managing or
Hiding Feelings 5) Intellectual: capable of logical, reasonable, and objective
thought. 6) Interpersonally: accountable, in command, and domineering 7) Other
Personal Characteristics: Competitiveness and Adventure.
