Abstract

This research discusses the analysis of the translation method in figurative language
found in this movie script. The topic of figurative language is interesting because it
can provide new information to others when speaking, reading, writing, and
listening to sources or something that contains figurative language. This study uses
two theories, Newmark's(1988) theory and Kennedy's(1983). This analysis uses a
qualitative descriptive approach by considering the data of words and phrases
contained in the movie. The results show that there are 5 types of cultural words in
movie subtitles, Simile (20,4%), Metaphor (31,3%), Personification (18,0%), and
Hyperbole (28,9%). The writers suggested other researchers continue analyzing
figurative language because it can help readers to understand the meaning contained
in movie subtitles.
