Abstract

This research is entitled "Translation Method Used in The Translation of Figurative Language in The Novel A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khaled Hosseini." This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method. In this case, the researcher only focuses on analyzing the translation of four figurative languages that contain similes, hyperboles, personifications, and metaphors. The aim of this research is to identify what figurative language used in the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and also to analyze the methods used by translators in translating figurative language using Newmark's theory (1988). In this research, the researcher has found 85 figurative language items, including 27 similes, 32 hyperboles, 15 personifications, and 11 metaphors. For the translation method, the researcher found 55 communicative translations, 18 literal translations, 4 word-for-word translations, 1 semantic translation, 2 adaptation translations, 2 idiomatic translations, and 3 free translations.
