Abstract
Article aimed to explore and analysis the translation techniques used by the translator in
translating the expression of positive politeness strategy expressed in the novel “ANIMAL
FARM” (1945) by George Orwell, and to show the impact of translation technique used by the
translator in translating the expression in this novel, and to determine the translation quality
assessment in this study. Method applied was the descriptive qualitative research by collecting
and analysing both the English or Indonesian versions of novel. The samples of data were
classified by Brown & Levinson (1987) politeness strategy theory, then, the translation technique
theory by Molina & Albir (2002), and the translation quality assessment (TQA) theory by
Nababan (2003). It can be concluded that there were only ten strategies found from the collected
data, and almost all data was identified as an acceptable and accurate translation. The translation
technique of established equivalent was most frequently used in this research.
