Abstract

This particular research is a descriptive qualitative research that aims to find out
how and which grammatical cohesion are used and written in Kendrick Lamar’s
Short Movie news in international online newspapers. This analysis is done by
focusing on the cohesive devices that are found in the articles and belong to any of
the cohesive devices. This research will be based on Cohesion in English by
Halliday and Hasan (1976). Data were collected by reading and taking a note in
four articles with the same topic. Most cohesive devices are found in the articles,
Namely Reference, Conjunction, Substitution and Ellipsis. However, There is one
article that doesn’t include Ellipsis as one of the devices. The most dominant
devices found in this article is conjunction and the least device found is substitution.
