Abstract

The research entitled "AN ANALYSIS OF RACISM AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE IN THE FILM “THE GREEN MILE” BY FRANK DARABONT." analyzes the forms of racism in the film The Green mile by Frank Darabont. The Green Mile tells of a prisoner who comes from black people and has magical powers within him. This research shows the treatment of racist forms experienced by minorities. The purpose of this study is first, to find out the types of racism contained in the film. Second, to find out the resistance shown in the film. This study uses a narrative approach by Roland Barthes. The method used is descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data in this study. The data source is taken from the dialogue in the film The Green Mile by Frank Darabont. The findings in this study are first, the characteristics of the main character in this film, secondly the social setting contained in the green mile film, then finally the type of racism that occurs in the green mile film which consists of internalized racism, interpersonal racism, and institutional racism.
