Abstract

Sargasum sp is one class of brown macroalgae (Phaeophyceae), Acanthopora sp is one group of red algae (Rodophyceae ) and Caulerpa sp is one of the group of green algae (Clorophyceae), which are found in Indonesian waters . Macroalgae species are now widely used by the people of Indonesia is a multicellular alga compounds suspected of having secondary metabolism . These compounds are bioactive compounds that likely can be used in medicine, such as anti-bacterial and anti-cancer. The purpose of this study was to test the toxicity properties of Sargassum cinerium seaweed extrac . Acanthophora muscoides and Caulerpa cupressoides based Brine shrimp lethality test, which is one of the test to identify potential of these plants as medicine. The result is expected to provide scientific information on the potential of seaweed as an ingredient drugs derived from marine plant natural resources of Indonesia. The results showed that the extract of seaweed species Sargassum cinereum. Acanthophora muscoides and Caulerpa cupressoides has biological activity against the test animals (Artemia salina nauplius ). This can be seen by the test animals were dead after 24 hours of treatment at 4 concentrations of the extract (10 , 100 , 200 , and 500 ppm). LD50 (death of test animals by 50 %) of Sargassum cinereum and Acanthophora muscoides occurred at doses of 100 ppm extract , whereas in Caulerpa cupressoides dose of 10 ppm can cause death was 50 % of test animals .The results also indicate that caused the death of 50 % of test animals . The results also showed that Caulerpa cupressoides lethality properties (toxic) which is the highest compared to the Brine shrimp species Sargassum cinereum and Acanthophora muscoides .
