Abstract

In patriarchy, a social system that positions men as superior and women as inferior, there is a cultural system, and its dependence on men makes women easy to exploit. Patriarchal society uses rigid gender roles, to ensure that women remain passive. Patriarchal culture cannot be separated from women. Male dominance over women has become a social reality in many countries. Male patriarchal culture can regulate women in social and cultural life. This makes women try to fight for their status and rights and liberate them from patriarchal culture in order to get the same position as men. In this research, the researcher discusses the main characters, social settings, and patriarchal cultural phenomena. By using the patriarchal approach of Sylvia Walby, radical feminism, and the sociology of Alan Swingewood. Then the researcher can analyze the problem. The authors conduct descriptive qualitative research using the radical feminism and sociology approaches, collecting data such as film scripts and various articles on the topics they study. After conducting research, the authors conclude that the patriarchal system is preserved through government and family arrangements. Patriarchal culture refers to society and its way of life. All forms of culture show ways and systems that help and influence individuals or groups in life. As in the live-action film Mulan (2020), what happens to the main character is that there is discrimination experienced by a patriarchal cultural system developed by the community and their families. Mulan, the main character, has the courage to fight against the patriarchal system that exists in her country and finally gets equal rights and positions with men. With the existence of the feminist movement, women can voice their opinions and win their rights or degrees so that they are equal to men. Keyword : Patriarchy, Feminism, Sociology ,Mulan.
