Abstract
The present study aims to determine the types of illocutionary act in the “Transcript of Queens Gambit”. The types of illocuions that Yule (1996) proposes are the focus of this research. The research used qualitative descriptive by analyzing transcript of the Queens Gambit speech as the primary data. Later, the data sources in this study is collected by watching Queens Gambit Series on Netflix season 1 episode 1 to make it clear that speech meets the criteria in the context in which speech is spoken. Coming after, the data are analyzed and transcribed into the written form. Then, the data is divided to five groups of types of illocutionary speech acts. The findings reveal that there are four types of illocutionary speech acts used in the transcript of Queens Gambit. They are representative, expressive, directive and commissive. This shows that the one of illocutionary acts that are not found in the transcript are declarative. Reasonably, the preferred type of illocutionary speech act is representative. The revealed of the most and the least used of types of illocutionary speech acts from the transcript of Queens Gambit. There are representative (10), expressive (8), directive (9), ommissive (6) and declarative (0). It can be interpreted that representative and expressive are preferred.
