Abstract

Past tenses errors in English Indonesian translation is the main topic in this study by taking source data from English Literature Study Program Universitas Nasional which in their translation from English as source language to Indonesian as target language consist of tenses errors and translation errors. This study focus on words, phrases, clauses, and sentences which contain on the past tenses error (simple past, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous) proposed by Herring (2016) and the types of error proposed by Dulay et al. (1982). The Researcher used descriptive qualitative in which data are collected in the form of words, also takes several steps in collecting data: make questions that consist of tenses errors which respondent have to change it into the right tenses and translate it from English to Indonesia, put those question into google form, and share the link to student of English Department Universitas Nasional. In analyzing the data, researcher has several steps: marking the data that consist of tenses error and translation error and classified the data that consist of errors into a types of error. The result of this study, there are 80 data of tenses error and past continuous being the dominant error, the types of error that dominantly showed is misinformation which has 17 data.
