Abstract

This research is entitled Male Dominance and Female Exploitation in “My Bare Lady”. The novel My Bare Lady (2019) written by Piper Sheldon depicted the struggle of a female stripper who works in a male-dominated society that lived in order to survive in the situation where she was bind by debt. In the place where she worked, she experienced sexual harassment, assault, battery, attempted rape and even attempted trafficking. The aim of this study is to reveal gender discrimination, namely the male dominance and female exploitation in the selected literary work. In order to do that, radical feminist theory is used to analyze the male dominance and female exploitation that the main character experience while working as a stripper. Descriptive qualitative method is applied in this research and purposive sampling is used in order to collect the data by doing thorough reading, highlighting the data, note-taking, and separating the data that are categorized in the required research questions and objectives of the research. This research concludes two results: (1) how the male dominance is portrayed in the novel; and (2) how female exploitation of a stripper is portrayed in the novel.
