Abstract

This research focused on category shift in the translated script film Pitch Perfect in 2012, English into Indonesian by Rahayu Kinasih. This research aimed to find out and identifying the category shifts and also find out the translation methods and quality assessment. The theory of category shifts in this research was by Catford that was structure shift, class shift, unit shift and intra system shift, the translation methods by Newmark that were word for word, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation, idiomatic translation and communicative translation and quality assessment by Nababan that were accuracy, acceptability and readability. This research used descriptive qualitative as a method. The result of category shift in this research after I analyzed 80 data there was 40% structure shift, 2,5% class shift, 50% unit shift and 7,5% intra system shift founded. The result of translation methods in this research after I analyzed 80 data there was 69% literal translation, 29% free translation and 2,5% idiomatic translation, from 80 data there were just 3 of 8 translation methods I found. The level of quality assessment in this research from 80 data was 99% data has level 3 on accuracy, acceptability and readability, and also this research has 1% of level 2 on accuracy, acceptability and readability. The most shift founded in this research was unit shift and the most method that I found in this research was literal tranlsation.
