Abstract

Information regarding Coleoptera in the Giam Siak Kecil Biosphere Reserve, Bukit Batu, Riau is scarce. Aim of this study was to determine the diversity of Coleoptera around the Giam Siak Kecil Biosphere Reserve, Bukit Batu Riau. The Coleoptera study, conducted on May 5-11 2018, with a quantitative descriptive method using a pitfall trap (plastic container). The research was held in two different locations, namely the core zone (secondary forest) and industrial plantation forest (IPF). Results: we found 9 spesiesand 42 individuals in secondary forest, while in IPF there were 10 spesiesand 153 individuals. The composition of Coleoptera in secondary forest habitats is different from the composition of Coleoptera found in IPF habitats (SI <50%). The Coleoptera diversity index in secondary forest and IPF is moderate. The spesieswith the highest INP (dominant) in the secondary forest habitat was Xyleborus sp (61.90 %), and followed by Baeocera sp (42.86%). While in IPF Xyleborus sp (122.15%) was also the dominant spesies. Coleoptera which act as fungivores had a high percentage of numbers in both habitats
