Abstract

This study aims to identify the t ypes of emotions in the movie Wish (2023) and ident ify the translat ion methods used by translators in translat ing the movie from English to Indonesian subt it les, so that viewers can receive the message clearly and without ambiguit y. The method used is qualitative research by collect ing and analyzing data from the subt it les of the movie Wish. The translat ion methods used to analyze the form of words, phrases, and sentences containing emotions by Newmark (1988) are classified into eight types: word-for-word, literal, adaptation, semantic, idiomatic, free, fait hful, and communicative t ranslat ion. The results of this research are that the translat ion methods used are the five translat ion methods ment ioned above: literal, communicative, fait hful, semantic, and idiomat ic. It can be concluded that there are 53 data containing emot ional meaning based on Paul Ekman's theory. The most frequent ly used translation methods were literal and communicat ive translat ion. Furthermore, the emotion most frequently found in this movie is happiness, with a total of 16 data.
