Abstract

Exploring how words in song lyrics experience semantic shift meet translation to express meanings with the same heartbeat. Semantic shift face translation to show how language relates to culture, perspective and understanding. This research aimed to find out the semantics shift appearing in the ‘rosie’ song album lyrics and to identify the translation procedures used by the translator in translating the ‘rosie’ song album by Rosé from English into Indonesian lyrics. The method applied is qualitative research by collecting and analyzing the data from the ‘rosie’ song album lyrics. The semantic shift categories used to analyze the data is Mujiyanto’s theory which is classified into five categories. As the result, there are 103 data of semantics shifts, consisting of Substitution (44), Specification (2), Generalization (10), Reversal (8) and Deviation (39). Substitution is the most frequently semantics shift category found in the song lyrics, while Specification is found only two in the lyrics throughout the 12 songs on the album. Moreover, there are 4 out of 7 translation procedures, including Transposition (18), Modulation (24), Equivalence (54) and Adaptation (7) with Equivalence as the most frequently translation procedure category used in the lyrics across all 12 songs on the album.
