Abstract

This research is entitled “Behaviorism Study of the Series “Umbrella Academy (2019)” By Steve Blackman”. This study aims to determine how the process of operant conditioning occur in the series of Umbrella Academy. This study uses a qualitative method approach with purposive sampling as its data collection technique. The main theory used is behaviorism theory with the concept of operant conditioning from B.F. Skinner which emphasizes that behavior is formed through the consequences of actions. The results of the analysis show 8 data of character analysis, 8 data of characterization analysis, 6 data of positive reinforcement, 17 data of negative reinforcement, 5 data of extinction, and 2 data of shaping. The results of this study show that the behavior of the characters in the series transforms as a result of external stimuli in the form of positive and negative reinforcement, followed by a process of behavioral extinction, and subsequently the changes occur gradually through a shaping process.
