Abstract

As globalization facilitates more frequent communication between people worldwide, the use of multiple languages in conversations has become common. This thesis examines and analyze the types of code-switching used in the podcast and the functions behind their usage in Boy William's Podcast with Ovi Dian as the guest. In which the writer takes the data from utterances made by Boy William and Ovi Dian "Anak Ovi Dian Sakit Parah! Ovi Dian Perlu Bantuan". The data is analyzed in terms of Poplack's (1980) for type of code switching, and Koziol (2000) to recognized the function of code switching. In this research, the writer using descriptive qualitative method, which foccused on observation. And the temporary result of the study revealed that Boy William and Ovi Dian mostly used the intra-sentencial and inter-sentencial code swicthing. Based on those method the writer succesfully define 36 occurrences of code switching in the podcast of Boy William and Ovi Dian. It is also found that mostly used type of code switching are intra sentential with total 22 occurences, and inter sentential to be the second mostly used, occurred in 14 utterances in the podcast. While no tag switching has found in this podcast. There is also function of code switching discussed in this research, which concluded from all 14 functions of code switching, it is found five of function in this podcast.
